And of course there’s time for play too, whether it’s a little dancing or an African drumming lesson.
The basic requirements for becoming an intern or volunteer in the microfinance program are
- A genuine desire to be helpful.
- At least 18 years of age (with exceptions under certain circumstances).
- Intermediate knowledge of French. (Volunteering in some programs does not require a knowledge of French, so don’t hesitate to contact us for more information. We will do our very best to make your experience one that you will never forget!).
You can choose to work exclusively in microfinance or also experience work in other departments, such as Sports, Health Care and Hygiene, and Education. For more information, contact us.
Phincho Sherpa, from Bowdoin College, spent 2 life changing months living with a Senegalese family and working in microfinance in the mornings and other departments in the afternoons. She had this to say about her experience:
“As I look back on my time at Maison de la Gare, I am filled with a profound sense of gratitude and wonder. From the beginning, I knew that this experience would be transformative, but I have never anticipated just how much it would enrich my life.”
Like these volunteers, you too are assured to be deeply moved by your experience of getting to know the wonderful Senegalese children and adults. They too will learn from you in the environment of respect and equality.
